Working the original Dust Devil remains a highlight I'll never forget. Getting to know people like Kool-Aid, Chip, Duane, Rocker, and the guys from Tucson was important for all of us. And, it was the FIRST National Championship, which made it that more special. Calling the 2008 National Championship for Bay Area Derby in a bout that had a miracle jam at the end, with BAD nearly upsetting Philly, was an amazing experience. These days, the greatest moments are usually those coaching. When a skater turns a corner in her performance, and hugs the stuffing out of you after the bout...that's what derby is all about. I love knowing I've help teach and/or motivate someone to become better than they thought possible. Taking Madison's worst league team to the league Championship and winning. I still get the occasional "Thanks for all you did for me" e-mail from announcers, as I've gotten to know and train so many. That's always cool. And, it's funny, as it's often three years later when they have hit the stride in their call, are educating the fans, and they see if come full circle. Again, that's what it's all about. Giving back to the sport what we can. |
